Danske Bank Branch Refurbishment

Danske Bank are transforming the Bloomfield branch!

Bloomfield customers can look forward to easier, faster and better banking! Work will begin next month on a major refurbishment of Danske Bank’s Bloomfield branch. As this involves major work, the branch will temporarily close from 4.30pm on Saturday 9th February and the branch team will move to the Bangor Main Street branch. The newly refurbished branch will re-open on Monday 8th April.

The nearest branches of Danske Bank are in Bangor and Newtownards but customers can use any branch of Danske Bank for any of their needs. Customers who have a debit card can also use their local Post Office to lodge money, withdraw cash and check balances. The nearest Post Offices to Bloomfields are Ashbury Avenue and Abbeyville (Newtownards Road).

A Danske Bank cash machine will be available in the centre during the refurbishment, as well as the external cash machine (to the car park) which dispense both sterling and euro notes.

If you are unsure about what to do while the branch is temporarily closed, you can visit any Danske Bank branch and staff will be happy to help!

Check out how the new Danske Bank Bloomfield branch will look on completion:

Bloomfield becomes a JAM Card Friendly Organisation

Bloomfield becomes a JAM Card Friendly Organisation

Following our pledges on Purple Tuesday to make shopping at Bloomfield a pleasant and easy experience for all customers, we have now launched the JAM Card.

The JAM Card, which stands for Just A Minute, is a social innovation from NOW Group an organisation that supports people with learning difficulties and autism into employment. It was their service users who said they would like a discreet way of telling people that sometimes they need a little extra time and patience. The JAM Card was created first as a credit card sized card and has recently been developed into an app for smartphones.

Staff from Bloomfield along with the staff from stores within the centre have recently taken part in JAM Card awareness training which provided them with the knowledge they need to ensure that users of the JAM Card feel welcome in their establishment. This training will ensure our staff are equipped to provide excellent customer service to people with learning difficulties and communication barriers.

You can find out more about the JAM Card at www.jamcard.org and NOW Group at www.nowgroup.org.

Bloomfield Giving Tree 2018

Bloomfield Giving Tree 2018Bloomfield Giving Tree 2018

For 19 years, The Giving Tree appeal at Bloomfield Shopping Centre has been supporting the women and children involved in North Down and Ards Women’s Aid services. Originally started by Esther Rantzen and Childline, it grows more successful every year.

You’ll find the Giving Tree opposite H&M on the mall towards Tesco. On its baubles are stickers, which read the names, ages and choice of gift of children who would otherwise go without this Christmas.

If you would like to help a child that has faultlessly had to leave their home at short notice and with nothing, please chose your gift, mark it off on the tree (or alternatively, remove the sticker) and take the unwrappedgift to Thomas Cook. Centre Management will then make sure that it’s sent to Women’s Aid.

North Down and Ards Women’s Aid would like to thank the staff and customers of Bloomfield Shopping Centre for their overwhelming generosity – every year, over 150 children receive gifts from the Giving Tree, children from families who have experienced domestic violence.

Women’s Aid Charity has been working to eliminate domestic violence in Northern Ireland for over 20 years. Domestic violence is an issue that is of great importance to and within our communities. It can happen to anyone regardless of their background, religion, race, age or financial situation.

Advice and information is available from North Down and Ards Women’s Aid 028 91027 3196, or from the 24 Hour Domestic and Sexual Violence Helpline on 0800 802 1414.

Bloomfield Community Challenge

On Saturday 1st September, 10 local sports teams and clubs came to Bloomfield Shopping Centre to take part in the Bloomfield Community Sports Challenge for a chance to win £2,000 sponsorship for their club. The age groups ranged from 5 to over 30’s with Netball, Hockey, Diving and Football teams involved.

Starting the day with a bang, Diving Academy NI (DANI) took the lead in the first round of the quiz, nailing it on the Disney villain’s questions. Round 2 involved both cup flipping and cup stacking skills, surprisingly the footballers definitely had the upper hand with these rounds! We then moved on to the Rodeo Bull round, the girls from Holywood Ladies Hockey had obviously been training for this one as they set the record with a whopping 55.93 seconds! The rest of the day’s activities included more quiz rounds, building spaghetti and marshmallow towers, attempting to complete the After Eight challenge and a highly competitive game of Fluffy Bunnies! Ards Ladies Hockey may have set the new world record with an insane 12 marshmallows!

All teams who took part on the day have been awarded £100 for their club to go towards sports equipment, maintenance of their club / grounds and travel costs for competitions and matches. The overall winners of the £2,000 sponsorship were Diving Academy NI, massive congratulations to the team on the day and all members of the club.

Bloomfield would like to thank all the teams who took part on the day and we hope to see you again very soon.

Charity event at Next in aid of the Sherry Campbell Memorial Fund!

This week the staff of Next are getting on a spin bike and cycling to raise money for the Sherry Campbell Memorial Fund. This will be followed by the staff hiking up Slieve Donard on Sunday 12th November. We also have an excellent hamper which local businesses have very kindly donated gifts to the fund.

Each ballot is £1 or 5 for £4.

Sherry was a beautiful kind natured girl who worked within the Next team for 9 years, her life being suddenly cut short choking on a piece of food at the young age of 29. Her family have set up the Sherry Campbell Memorial Fund to try and highlight how to help someone if they are choking by putting on first aid courses throughout the country and also trying to get a life vac (a device to also clear the airways if someone is choking) around all schools in Ireland.

We would greatly appreciate people taking the time to come into store this week to support them and this wonderful cause!
